Aujourd'hui détruite, cette maison était située dans le quartier Swiqat Eddabân (« Le petit marché aux mouches »), non loin de l'actuel Souk al-'Ashshâbîn (« Marché des herboristes »), à la limite du quartier funduq Lihoudi. Alfred Bel l'avait découverte en 1914 et fut autorisé à démanteler des parties importantes de son décor sur plâtre et sur bois et quelques revêtements de céramique, afin de les déposer au musée de la ville. C'est ce décor, exécuté avec finesse et semblable à celui des madrasa marinides, qui permit de dater l’édifice.
L'entrée de la maison (au sud) desservait un vestibule coudé à angle droit qui conduisait à la cour de l'édifice, autour de laquelle s’organisaient quatre chambres rectangulaires. Sur trois côtés, elles étaient précédées de galeries supportées par dix piliers. La face, sans galerie couverte, présentait des piliers engagés. On accédait à l'étage par un escalier étroit qui desservait les chambres de l’entresol et le premier étage qui ouvrait sur une galerie couverte sur cour formant un balcon devant une salle.
Le décor de cet édifice était remarquable. Dans la cour centrale, on retrouvait la superposition classique de l'architecture marinide : au niveau inférieur de la mosaïque de céramique ; du bois de cèdre sculpté pour les linteaux et les corbeaux ; et du plâtre finement sculpté dans les parties supérieures, sous la forme de panneaux de losanges superposés semblables à ceux des madrasa marinides, encadrés de frises épigraphiques. Le décor sur bois de cèdre est particulièrement important par sa richesse, son équilibre et sa souplesse.
Sur l’une des poutres récupérées par A. Bel, le décor floral s’organise en panneaux délimités par une ligne de rosaces à six pétales. Une composition au vase jaillissant s’organise symétriquement le long d’un axe vertical. Deux rameaux se déroulent et recoupent l'orbe dessiné par l'enroulement en spirale. Chacun se divise en deux départ de rinceaux garnis de palmes doubles nervées et de pommes de pin. La composition est couronnée par une pomme de pin débordant sur le cadre. Si l'encadrement, la disposition et l'esthétique de ce décor rappellent ceux des corbeaux du funduq al-Shammâ‘în de Fès (fin XIIIe siècle), il évoque également les compositions des époques antérieures notamment andalouses (Madinat al-Zahra, qasaba de Malaga) et almoravide de Fès (mosquée Qarawiyyîn).
La maison marinide de Fès présente les caractéristiques majeures d'une maison urbaine marocaine à cour centrale. Son décor la singularise de ses semblables car il reprend avec finesse, dans un bâtiment privé, les compositions souvent utilisées dans des édifices publics et notamment les madrasa.
