Mausolée de Sidi Mehrez

Le monument est situé en plein quartier Bab Souika ; il est entouré de souks à vocation très variée.
Sidi Mehrez est considéré comme le protecteur de la médina de Tunis ; les sultans hafsides lui vouèrent une grande dévotion. Cette vénération se perpétua à travers les âges, et plusieurs membres de sa famille furent inhumés dans ce mausolée.
On accède au monument par une baie d'entrée composée d'un arc en plein cintre surbaissé reposant sur deux piédroits. Cette entrée dessert un vestibule couvert en voûte d’arête, abritant des portes encadrées de plaques en grès desservant cinq chambres destinées aux visiteurs.
De cette entrée, on passe dans un espace aux parois couvertes de stuc richement décoré couvert d’une grande coupole, abritant la porte de la chambre funéraire. De superficie plus importante que les autres pièces, celle-ci est couverte d’une coupole ovoïde. Les murs sont couverts de bois sculpté surmonté d’un parement en stuc richement décoré réparti en panneaux affectant la forme d’un mihrâb, décorés de motifs géométriques et floraux. Le monument renferme également une salle d’ablution précédée d’une cour destinée aux offrandes.
Le mausolée de Sidi Mehrez constitue, avec ses deux coupoles et ses panneaux de revêtement en céramique se trouvant à l'intérieur de la salle de prière, un exemple de l’influence de l'architecture ottomane à Tunis, visible aussi à la mosquée de Mohamed Bey.
