Ce récipient à charbon est composé d’un bol et d’une poignée assez longue. Autour du corps du récipient, quatre colonnes ont été sculptées pour servir de pieds. Entre ces colonnes, on trouve des saillies légèrement courbes. Elles servaient peut-être à maintenir un autre élément, qui n’a pas été préservé. La longue poignée indique que cet objet n’est pas à proprement parler un encensoir ou un brasero. Comme c’est encore le cas en Jordanie et dans le monde arabe, la fonction d’un tel objet est de transporter du charbon. À Ayla, on a découvert d’autres exemples de récipients présentant des saillies autour de la partie principale, mais avec un dessin différent. De tels récipients sont probablement des imitations d’objets en bronze qui avaient le même usage.
Les récipients trouvés à Ayla présentent des dessins décoratifs qui proviennent peut-être du sud de l’Arabie, comme c’est le cas pour certaines lampes en stéatite.
