This object was discovered during the 1920s during works carried out in the calle Historiador Palau in Denia. It was perhaps originally a gift from the Fatimid caliph. It was found inside a ceramic storage jar along with other pieces in bronze. It became part of the collection of the Museo Arqueológico in Denia in the 1950s. The artefact is in relatively good condition.
This object was part of a group of eleven lamp stands. This constitutes the largest collection of such objects ever found. It is speculated that it belonged to a collection of objects hidden from the Spanish conquest of the town in 1244. The base of the lamp stand is semi-spherical and has three feet. From the centre rises a tube, whose base is encircled by a large ring and which has two balls at the top and bottom. The top of the tube is crowned with a flat plate to hold an oil lamp. This type of lamp stand is typical of those produced in Egypt or perhaps in Iran.
The decoration is relatively sparse and basically consists of the shapes making up the tube, which give it a certain dynamism.
This type of lamp stand was generally to be found in wealthy households. It is obviously related to the ten other lamps found in the same jar. Other similar objects have been found both in al-Andalus and abroad:

- a lamp stand originating in Egypt or Iran held by the Louvre Museum[3]
- a lamp stand in the al-Sabah collection at the Kuwait Museum[4]
