Este elemento de celosía forma parte de una balaustrada (darbuz), elemento arquitectónico distintivo, común a la arquitectura marroquí-andaluza. De hecho, las balaustradas delimitaban las galerías de los pisos que daban al patio a cielo abierto. Podemos encontrarlas en las casas, los funduq, las madrasa y otros edificios civiles y religiosos.
Este panel se compone de dos registros decorativos laterales pintados en rojo y verde con decoración floral amarilla bordeada de rojo. En cada lado, enmarcan un panel que contiene mallas de madera torneada colocadas en compartimentos cuadrados en los ángulos, poligonales y hexagonal en el centro. Se ha prestado especial atención a su encuadre, que incluye cuatro listeles separados por un caveto y dos ranuras.
Las celosías son de madera torneada de un tipo muy extendido, denominado farkh u arnasa. Esta fórmula alterna elementos cúficos farkh y elementos redondos torneados arnas. La madera torneada es conocida en Marruecos desde el siglo X. El testimonio más antiguo aparece en el minbar fatimí de la mezquita de los Andaluces, que data del 985. De origen oriental (Egipto), este procedimiento conoció un extraordinario desarrollo en la época de los mariníes (1196-1549) y se extendió a una gran variedad de composiciones decorativas. Figura en diversos monumentos religiosos y civiles, tanto en balaustradas, puertas interiores, ventanas geminadas, balcones y biombos, como en muebles.
Al igual que las obras mariníes del siglo XIV, este fragmento está realzado con una policromía cálida. Los colores dominantes son el verde, el rojo y el amarillo, realzados por el blanco, el azul y el negro. Hasta entonces, la pintura solo desempeñaba un papel secundario en la decoración arquitectónica en Marruecos, ya que predominaban la escultura y el cincelado. A finales del siglo XIV, se sientan las bases de una decoración sobre madera y yeso que cada vez concede más protagonismo a la pintura. A partir del siglo XVII, bajo los alauitas, se produce el abandono de la escultura en beneficio de la pintura. El compendio ornamental de este elemento de balaustrada, con sus registros florales y geométricos, se encuentra fuertemente impregnado de la decoración andaluza.
