Ce bracelet provient de la région de la Beqaa. Il a été retrouvé sans contexte archéologique et fait partie d’un lot de bijoux en or acquis par le Musée national de Beyrouth. Ses deux parties creuses, faites de feuilles d'or torsadées, perforées et estampées, sont réunies par une charnière. Le fermoir à goupille est orné d’un rubis entouré de quatre protubérances filigranées. Ce genre de bracelet à jonc creux est bien attesté. Déjà utilisé à l’époque romaine, il existe également dans le monde iranien. Plusieurs bracelets similaires à celui-ci se trouvent dans diverses collections, au Metropolitan Museum of Art[1] de New York, à la Freer Gallery of Art de Washington[2], au Los Angeles County Museum of Art[3], au musée du Louvre à Paris et au Musée national de Damas[4] pour les plus connus. Ces exemples sont pour la plupart attribués à la Syrie, tandis que quelques uns le sont à l’Iran[5]. Il est évident que les techniques d’orfèvrerie en Syrie et en Égypte, qui sont très anciennes, ont aussi été influencées par celles du monde iranien.
La datation des bijoux n’est pas toujours aisée car l’orfèvrerie se caractérise souvent par la continuité et la préservation de certaines traditions. Ceux de la période fatimide témoignent du savoir-faire développé des joailliers ainsi que du goût de la clientèle de l’époque. Éléments essentiels de la parure féminine, les bijoux en or faisaient partie de la « dot » offerte par le fiancé à sa promise. Ils constituaient aussi une valeur économique fiable, surtout en périodes de crise. La plupart de ceux produits à l’époque médiévale ont ainsi disparus pour avoir été refondus.
