Este kursî hexagonal se apoya en seis patas cilíndricas y cuenta con una pequeña puerta de dos hojas que da acceso a un estante. Esta forma es bastante común. El museo del Cairo conserva otro atril de aleación de cobre, similar por su forma[1], y un tercero de marquetería de madera de colores y marfil[2]. En el Museo del Louvre, un tablero hexagonal procede seguramente de un mueble del mismo tipo[3]. Bajo los otomanos, desde el siglo XVI hasta principios del siglo XX, se realizaron varios kursî a partir del modelo de Ibn Qalâ'ûn: Algunos, del siglo XVI, fueron copiados directamente, otros sólo adaptados. Otros atriles de Corán de formas diversas fueron fabricados en gran número en tiempos de los mamelucos.
La decoración, calada y con incrustaciones de plata, combina motivos vegetales, caligrafía thuluth y cúfica trenzada y escudos circulares epigrafiados. Está organizada en cuatro registros superpuestos en las caras y de forma radial en el tablero. Las epigrafías, con trazos que irradian hacia el centro, evocan la idea del sol, simbólica habitual para un carácter principesco[4]. Entre los motivos, algunos ya eran conocidos desde hacía mucho tiempo en Egipto, como las espirales vegetales, reminiscencia de obras fatimíes de marfil [5]. Otros, como las bandadas de patos, se encuentran comúnmente en los metales iraníes y egipcios del siglo XIV. Algunos también eran nuevos en Egipto, como las flores de loto, representadas en el centro del tablero hexagonal, que reflejan la importante actividad comercial entre Egipto y el mundo iraní, en particular desde la Pax mongolica de 1326.
Los escudos circulares, divididos en tres franjas horizontales, son característicos del mundo mameluco; el hecho de que estén epigrafiados remite al estatus de su propietario, ya que los blasones epigrafiados, al menos durante el período bahrita, estaban reservados a los sultanes.
