La disposition d’inscriptions en cercles concentriques autour d’un point central a été adoptée par les Fatimides sur leurs monnaies après leur conquête de l’Égypte (969). Ce dinar représente la dernière transformation de la monnaie fatimide durant le règne du calife al-Âmir (r. 1101-1130). Sur l’avers, au centre, se trouvent les titres du calife : imam al-Mansûr. Dans le premier cercle figurent la date et le lieu de frappe, dans le second cercle, la suite du nom du calife et son titre de « Prince des Croyants ». Sur le revers, au centre sont inscrits les deux mots « standard élevé», gage de qualité, expression qui a commencé à être utilisée à l’époque du calife al-Musta’lî (r. 1094 – 1101), et se retrouve sur toutes les émissions de monnaie en Égypte et en Syrie. Dans le premier cercle s’inscrit une citation du Coran (IX, 33), et dans le second la profession de foi chiite.
Tyr était, avec Tripoli, un des deux ateliers de frappe dans la région du Liban. Les deux villes sont passées sous contrôle des Fatimides peu après leur arrivée en Égypte en 969. Grâce à la réputation de leur aloi, c’est ce type de monnaie en or que les Croisés et les Ayyubides imitèrent dans leur monnayage. Les monnaies de Tyr et notamment celles du calife al-Âmir donnèrent leurs noms aux imitations croisées « dinars de Tyr », qui commencèrent à circuler à partir du milieu du XIIe siècle, et ceci durant un peu plus d’un siècle. Les toutes premières émissions en or du règne de Saladin utilisaient encore le verset coranique figurant sur les monnaies fatimides, toute référence au chiisme en ayant été retirée, et le nom du calife abbasside introduit. Ce n’est qu’à partir de 1225, sous le règne du troisième sultan ayyubide, al-Kâmil, que le kufique fut remplacé par le naskhî dans les inscriptions monétaires.
