Esta tabla procede de un techo de la sala de oración de la Gran Mezquita de Kairouan.
Sobre el fondo rojo del panel, la decoración aparece en verde, marrón claro y oscuro. Cuatro cartuchos cuadrados curvilíneos evocan la imagen de una amplia flor abierta cuyo corazón está constituido de una estrella central con ocho ramas; unas ramas dibujan dos rosetones con cuatro lóbulos entrecruzados y se terminan con un florón trilobulado.
Las carpinterías pintadas ya existían en la época omeya[1], se utilizaron en la época abasida[2] y se encuentran también en Al-Andalus[3]. Algunos elementos del techo de la Gran Mezquita de Kairouan están expuestos en el Instituto del Mundo Árabe en Paris. Este motivo de cuadrado con rosetones siguió siendo muy frecuente en los decorados de estuco, de cerámica y de madera procedentes de los monumentos hispano-árabes.
