The Parish church of Fiñana

This mosque, which has been transformed into a church, consists of three naves perpendicular to the qibla wall and separated by broken horseshoe arches resting on square-based chamfered columns within a rectangular frame. There still remain traces of the decoration of the mihrâb.
- Restoration :
In 1983 the mosque was declared an artistic and historic monument and renovation work began 3 years later.
Until recently, this building was considered entirely Nasrid in origin but based on inscriptions found in the mihrâb, C. Barcelo dated it as from the first half of the 13th century. Other writers such as A. Fernandez-Puertas hesitate between the end of the Almohad period and the beginning of the Nasrid era under Muhammad 1.
If it is true that the mosque dates from the first Nasrid period, it is contemporary with monuments in Granada such as the great mosque of Albaicin, the San Juan minaret the San Sebastian hermitage in Granada and the Ronda in Malaga.
In 1502 the mosque was converted into a hermitage dedicated to saint Jacques and the mihrâb became a chapel. A large proportion of the decoration of the façade has been preserved including decorative panels arranged in a rectangle, part of its heritage from the Nasrid era.
