El libro al-Jami al-Sahih (la selección auténtica) es una obra en la que se reúnen 2762 hadith (dichos y gestas) del Profeta, clasificados por temas en 97 capítulos. Su autenticidad se valida mediante la mención de su cadena de transmisión. Redactada por Mohammed al Bukharî (m. 870) y comentada por al-Qastallani (m. 1517), se considera entre las seis obras de hadith más importantes del mundo islámico sunnita. Fue objeto de una veneración particular.
Este ejemplar se constituye de siete volúmenes. La grafía, magrebí, es muy elegante. El principio y el final de cada volumen se adorna de sarloh, con decoración geométrica y floral contenida en un marco constituido de dos lazos que se cruzan, formando cartuchos alargados hexagonales y estrellas de cuatro puntas en las esquinas. El motivo marginal circular está decorado con palmetas y florones entrelazados.
Fue esencialmente a partir de la época otomana cuando la ornamentación de los libros de hadith se inspiró de la de los coranes. Los motivos vegetales utilizados (florones bífidos, follajes) están presentes, en la misma época, en el conjunto del mundo otomano, y no se limitan a las obras de hadith[1].
El repertorio decorativo de este ejemplar es característico de las producciones magrebíes, cuya paleta se enriqueció en el siglo XVIII: al azul, al rojo y al dorado, se añadieron otros colores como el verde. Los motivos marginales recuerdan a los medallones que adornan los frontispicios de los coranes de los siglos IX-XI, pero se inspiran directamente del repertorio decorativo hispano-morisco y otomano de los siglos XIII-XIV.
