The ‘Ain Zabuja Aqueduct

The ‘Ain Zabuja Aqueduct was built on two levels. At its two extremities are two reservoirs. It is comprised of fourteen arches on the upper level and seven on the lower. The aqueduct’s masonry is composed of varying sized bricks joined by mortar. The walls reveal evidence of horizontal wooden logs embedded in the masonry. To varying degrees and depending on their placement, they contributed to supporting the overhanging wall as well as to providing resistance to earthquakes. All along the upper section of the architecture, we will notice an earthenware system of canalisation.
