Ce brûle-parfum de forme carrée repose sur une partie inférieure présentant quatre saillies massives, lui donnant une forme de X. La poignée est de section carrée et fut ajoutée séparément à l’encensoir.
Le décor consiste en motifs appliqués, tels que trois saillies courbées qui remontent au-dessus du bord. Ces motifs, ainsi que les côtés, sont percés d’une ou deux rangées de points.
Cette pièce est unique. On l’a trouvée dans l’un des bâtiments entourant le complexe omeyyade de Jabal al-Qal’ah à Amman. Ce bâtiment était peut-être une maison appartenant à l’imâm de la mosquée située à proximité. De fabrication assez sommaire, cette pièce fait partie d’un grand ensemble de brûle-parfum datant de la même époque, et qui ont été retrouvées depuis l’Espagne jusqu’à l’est de l’Iran.
À la période omeyyade, Amman était la capitale de la province de Balqa. Comme aujourd’hui, la plupart des populations omeyyades se concentraient dans la vallée à l’ouest de Jabal al-Qal’ah. Les souverains omeyyades avaient fait du Jabal leur résidence principale, sans doute pour faire usage des vestiges du passé. Ce complexe comprend des quartiers administratifs et résidentiels, une mosquée, un marché et un bain. Le trait le plus marquant du quartier administratif (Dâr al-Imarah) est la grande salle de conférence à laquelle on accède en traversant une entrée cintrée et une cour.
