Ce bracelet provient de la région de la Beqaa, où il a été retrouvé avec d’autres bijoux en or, tous acquis par le Musée National de Beyrouth. Constitué de feuilles d’or, il a été repoussé de l’intérieur pour créer le décor, constitué de quatre losanges où se trouvent des musiciennes jouant du tambourin et du luth. Les petits triangles entre les losanges sont ornés de feuilles en forme de demi-palmettes. Il est possible que le bracelet n’ait jamais eu de fermoir, à moins que celui-ci n’ait disparu. Plusieurs bracelets semblables présentent des fermoirs en forme de losange, de disque ou de boule, souvent ornés en filigrane ou en grènetis.
Déjà connus à la période romaine, les bracelets creux étaient très populaires à l’époque médiévale. Grâce à la technique du repoussé, les orfèvres pouvaient donner une impression de volume à des objets légers ; le jonc était fréquemment rempli de résine pour le rendre plus solide. Portés aux poignets, aux bras ou aux chevilles, les bracelets allaient souvent par paires comme le montrent des illustrations dans des manuscrits contemporains de cette époque[1]. L’image d’Andromède dans le Livre des constellations fixes (Suwar al-kawakib al-thabitah) d’al-Sufî[2] donne à voir une figure féminine parée d’un diadème, d’un collier, de deux bracelets aux poignets et de boucles d’oreilles. Cette pratique de porter des paires de bracelets identiques a perduré jusqu’au XXe siècle.
Des décors de musiciens très proches se retrouvent sur plusieurs bracelets de la même époque, en or[3] ou en argent[4]. Le thème des plaisirs princiers, et en particulier des musiciens et danseurs, est d’ailleurs présent à l’époque fatimide sur différents objets et matériaux comme la céramique, le bois, le métal où l’ivoire, ce qui atteste sa popularité.
