Cette petite boîte a été découverte parmi un groupe d’objets exceptionnels trouvés dans le palais omeyyade d’al-Fudayn. Elle présente un renfoncement sous son bord supérieur et au-dessus de sa base. Elle était très probablement munie d’un couvercle, qui n’a pas été préservé. Le registre principal est cerné de deux bandeaux d’ocelles. Il s’orne d’une série de grands arcs dont les lignes sont constituées d’ocelles dans la partie haute, et de cercles concentriques dans la partie basse. On trouve des traces de pigment noir sur le bandeau supérieur, et rouge sur la partie inférieure. La surface du fond présente des anneaux concentriques. Le motif de l’arc, déjà utilisé dans l’Antiquité, est courant dans les productions omeyyades et les premières productions abbassides. On le retrouve sur une lampe en stéatite découverte à Mafraq (M 074), sur une margelle de puits à Qasr al-Hallabat, et sur l'aiguière « de Marwân II » en bronze trouvée à Abousir, en Égypte.
Les motifs d’ocelles sont des éléments décoratifs visibles sur un bol en stéatite d’Humayma, où ils sont contenus dans des bandes horizontales et perpendiculaires. Ces motifs remontent à une vieille tradition ; on les retrouve sur de la vaisselle en stéatite d’Arabie orientale datant de la fin du deuxième millénaire et du premier millénaire avant J.-C. Ils furent fréquemment utilisés durant les deux premiers siècles de la civilisation islamique, sur différents supports en métal, en bois ou en céramique.
Outre l’ivoire, de petites jarres en stéatite furent fabriquées sous les Omeyyades, comme en témoignent des exemplaires retrouvés à Ayla, qui portent des dessins géométriques.
Pendant des millénaires, on s’est servi de petites jarres pour garder des cosmétiques tels que des poudres ou des crèmes. On pense que l’on s’en servait également pour servir certains types d’aliments.d’œuvre
