Inscripción grabada en mármol: «Aquí se detuvo el rey Fernando, en la ribera del río Genil, dónde hoy se encuentra la ermita de San Sebastián, en el mismo lugar dónde el rey moro, acompañado de caballeros pertenecientes a su séquito…».

Fue restaurada en 1615. Posteriormente, el conjunto fue restaurado de nuevo por L. Torres Balbás y Prieto Moreno en los años 1950.
La importancia histórica de este edificio radica en que es el único ribat que subsiste en la ciudad de Granada. Se levanta en la orilla izquierda del Río Genil, al final del Paseo del Violín y se edificó en 1218, en la época almohade. Primero fue un lugar de alojamiento para las personas que deseaban vivir fuera de la ciudad y dedicarse a la vida contemplativa, a la oración y a la meditación. Era también el lugar donde se enterraba a ciertos ascetas.
De planta cuadrada, sus muros son de arcilla y su único acceso es una puerta abierta en arco de herradura de ladrillo, dentro de un marco rectangular del mismo material. Dentro se aprecia una espléndida cúpula hecha de ladrillos dispuestos a tizón, decorados con pares de finas nervaduras. La planta de esta cúpula es octogonal y está ornamentada con nervaduras en estuco que se unen a la altura de la clave, dibujando una cruz. A cada lado de la cúpula, observamos trompas de ángulo formadas por semibóvedas de aristas.
Los musulmanes llaman este tipo de cúpula qubba, y eran frecuentes en las construcciones funerarias. Originalmente, la cúpula era visible desde el exterior, pero hoy en día está oculta bajo un techo que sostiene un campanario calado que puede albergar una campana.
Cerca de este edificio fue donde el rey Boabdil habría entregado las llaves de la ciudad a los Reyes Católicos, el 2 de enero de 1492 y allí mismo se habría celebrado la primera misa de acción de gracias, como recuerda la inscripción grabada en el mármol.
Tras la conquista, son muchos los antiguos ribat de al-Andalus que fueron abandonados o dedicados al cristianismo. Desde entonces, este edificio está dedicado a los santos Fabián y Sebastián.
