gravée sur du marbre en espagnol : « C’est ici que le roi Fernando s’est arrêté, au bord du Río Genil, à l’endroit où se trouve aujourd’hui l’ermitage de San Sebastián, en ce même endroit où le roi maure, accompagné de chevaliers appartenant à sa suite…. ».
- Restauration :
Il a été restauré en 1615. Par la suite, l’ensemble a été restauré à nouveau par L. Torres Balbás et Prieto Moreno dans les années 1950.
L’importance historique de cet édifice réside dans le fait qu’il est l’unique ribat existant dans la ville de Grenade. Il se situe sur la rive gauche du Río Genil, à l’extrémité de la Promenade du Violon et a été érigé en 1218, à l’époque almohade. Il a d’abord servi d’habitat aux personnes qui souhaitaient s’isoler de la ville et se dédier à la vie contemplative, à l’oraison et à la méditation. Il s’agit aussi du lieu où étaient enterrés certains ascètes.
De plan carré, ses murs sont faits d’argile et son unique accès se fait par une porte ouverte par un arc outrepassé en brique, placé dans un encadrement rectangulaire du même matériau. À l’intérieur se trouve une magnifique coupole faite de briques disposées en boutisses, décorées de paires de fines nervures. Le plan de cette coupole est octogonal, elle est ornée de nervures en stuc qui se rejoignent au niveau de la clef de voûte où elles dessinent une croix. De part et d’autres de la coupole, on observe des trompes d’angles formées par des demi-voûtes en arête.
Ce type de coupole est appelé par les musulmans qubba, elle était fréquemment employée dans les constructions funéraires. À l’origine la coupole était visible de l’extérieur, mais de nos jours elle est cachée par un toit soutenant un clocher à jour pouvant abriter une cloche.
C’est à proximité de cet édifice que le roi Boabdil aurait remis les clefs de la ville aux rois catholiques, le 2 Janvier 1492 et c’est là qu’aurait été célébrée la première messe d’action de grâce, comme en témoigne l’inscription gravée dans le marbre.
Après la conquête, nombreux sont les anciens ribat d’al-Andalus qui ont été abandonnés ou qui furent dédiés au christianisme. C’est alors que cet édifice fut consacré aux saints Fabien et Sébastien.
