Esta taza fragmentada, con asa, reposa sobre una pequeña base anular convexa y presenta cuerpo con carena en la parte inferior. Está realizada en pasta porosa de color beige con elementos de pizarra, calcáreos y mica.
Su decoración, negruzca, está decorada principalmente con epigrafía en caracteres cúficos; actualmente incompleta, la inscripción en árabe dice: “bendición completa y [felicidad] total […]”. Según S. López Martínez se trata de una de las piezas de cuerda seca parcial más antiguas de las conservadas en Mértola y su estilo ornamental y caligráfico se distingue del resto de las piezas que podemos datar en el siglo XII.
La técnica de la cuerda seca, importada de Oriente en la misma época que la decoración vidriada polícroma denominada “verde y manganeso” fue muy utilizada en al-Andalus durante la época omeya y en períodos posteriores. Consiste en dibujar sobre la superficie de la pieza, con una mezcla de óxido de manganeso y una materia grasa, una serie de compartimentos cuyo interior se rellena con vidriado de color. Gracias a este método, los distintos colores quedarán perfectamente separados tras la cocción. Durante ésta, la mezcla con base de óxido de manganeso se evapora, dejando sobre la pieza un fino trazo negro.
