Ce pendant d'oreille appartient à un trésor qui fut mis à jour en 1930 dans la région montagneuse du Tarabia, à une vingtaine de kilomètres de la ville du Kef en Tunisie. Il renfermait des bijoux (pendants, bracelets, perles) ainsi que quatre-vingt-deux pièces de monnaie en or, dont les plus récentes, frappées à Mahdiyya, sont datées de 1044-1045.
De forme polylobée, le bijou est composé de sept petites boîtes en forme de croissant. Ces boîtes, extrêmement aplaties, sont toutes cernées d'un fil torsadé et agencées en arc de cercle. Les deux boîtes visibles de chaque côté du pendant sont chacune ornées de cinq rouelles cernées d’un fil torsadé. Deux rouelles meublent les angles tandis que les trois autres, disposées en triangle, garnissent le milieu de la boîte. L'anneau de suspension, en forme de fer à cheval, est dépourvu de décor.
Bien que les objets en or soient rarissimes, cette boucle d'oreille s'apparente, par sa forme et son décor, à des bijoux d'origine hispano-mauresque[1]. Elle perpétue la technique du filigrane, qui caractérise un nombre considérable de bijoux espagnols du Xe au XVe siècle. Bien que son décor soit moins raffiné, ce pendant offre quelques similitudes avec des boucles d'oreilles trouvées en Égypte[2], en Syrie et en Iran[3], datables du XIe au XIIIe siècle.
